Call for Papers: Tourism as a Catalyst for Sustainable Development

Journal On Tourism & Sustainability welcomes original research that examines not only how tourism develops, but what that development means for communities, destinations and the environment.
Call for Papers update
Tourism can create livelihoods, strengthen communities and encourage the protection of natural and cultural heritage. It can also increase inequality, place pressure on fragile environments and leave destinations dependent upon decisions made elsewhere.
Understanding these tensions has always been at the heart of the Journal On Tourism & Sustainability.
As Editor-in-Chief, I would like to invite researchers from across the world to submit their work to JOTS. We welcome theoretical, conceptual, empirical and applied research that helps us understand tourism as a possible catalyst for sustainable development, whilst also examining its limitations and consequences.
Tourism does not exist separately from the societies and environments in which it takes place. We are therefore particularly interested in research that explores its economic, social, cultural, political, organisational and environmental dimensions.
Topics may include: tourism development and public policy; destination management, marketing and demand; environmentalism and conservation; ecotourism and rural tourism; homestays and community based tourism; tourism dependency; small and medium sized tourism enterprises; the social, cultural and environmental impacts of tourism; voluntourism and travel philanthropy; events and festivals; mountain and adventure tourism; wellness, religious and spiritual tourism; dark tourism; sustainable forms of niche tourism; and new approaches to tourism research.
This list is not intended to limit the conversation. We welcome multidisciplinary and comparative work, research from different regions of the world and studies that question established assumptions about tourism and sustainability.
Context
We also strongly encourage emerging scholars and researchers publishing for the first time to submit their work. A journal should not only provide a home for established voices. It should help thoughtful new researchers become part of the academic conversation.
JOTS is an independent, open access and peer reviewed journal published by OTS Academy in Oxford, United Kingdom. It publishes two issues each year, during May to June and November to December.
There are no article processing charges. Authors are not asked to pay to submit or publish their research.
Manuscripts that pass the initial editorial assessment undergo double anonymous peer review by independent reviewers. Published articles are made available under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 licence, allowing authors to retain copyright whilst enabling their work to be read and shared widely.
JOTS is indexed in the Directory of Open Access Journals and Google Scholar. Published articles receive a Digital Object Identifier through Zenodo to support their long term discovery and citation.
Authors can submit a completed manuscript through the JOTS submission portal at otsjournal.org/submit.
